These builds are not yet code-signed. The app is safe to run — every build is produced in public from the source in this repository — but your operating system will warn you the first time.

macOS: if you see “Fortis is damaged and can’t be opened”, open Terminal and run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Fortis.app, then open the app normally.

Windows: at the SmartScreen prompt, choose More info, then Run anyway.

Linux: no warning. Run the AppImage or install the .deb.

FAQ

Does my data leave my machine?

No. All enrichment is local and bundled. AI uses your own key (or local Ollama). Community threat intel is off by default and shares only anonymized, salted-hashed indicators when you explicitly opt in.

Which platforms are supported?

macOS (Intel + Apple Silicon), Windows, and Linux (AppImage + deb).

How do I buy a commercial license?

Email hi@thedds.com.au with your company name and how many people will use Fortis. You get a signed license key to enter on the licensing screen, and an invoice.

Is Fortis open source?

It is source-available, not open source. The code is public under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. That license grants no commercial rights. Releases up to v1.0.4 were MIT; v1.1.0 onward is PolyForm Noncommercial.

Can I use Fortis at work for free?

No. Every tier, including Free, is noncommercial-only under the public license. Any use by or for a for-profit company needs a paid commercial license. Charities, schools, public research, public safety, environmental, and government institutions may use it free.

Can I fork Fortis and sell my own build?

No. Reselling, sublicensing, white-labelling, and offering Fortis as a hosted service are not permitted. Divergent Digital Studio is the sole copyright holder and the only party permitted to sell Fortis. You may modify and share it for noncommercial purposes.

Is there a mobile app?

A read-only mobile companion that consumes the local REST API is on the roadmap.
